Two more days! There are only two more days until my poetry chapbook, You Will Be Happy One Day, comes out!

I’ve mentioned it’s a memoir told via poetry, but I haven’t really gone into what in particular it’s focusing on. I’ve sure I could write another chapbook just based around being a pregnant trans man, but this one goes back further in time.

I started writing one poem per day in April of 2021. I committed to doing that through the whole month, and I was just writing whatever was in my heart at the time. I was feeling especially introspective then, trying to figure out how I’d gotten here in my life, and traced it back to one specific ex-friend. Namely, the way she wanted to explore my mental illness.

She liked to play amateur psychologist, back then. We spent a lot of time poking around my brain, until things got so bad that I wound up hospitalized. That started me down this road. Without that experience, I wouldn’t be a father today.

Occasionally, I wonder if I’d do anything differently, if I could go back. It was a lot of pain to go through. I’m still going through some of it.

And I still don’t know my answer to that hypothetical, but I don’t think I need to.

I’m better where I am. And that’s the point of the chapbook, to celebrate that. I hope you’ll consider ordering a copy when it goes live on October 30th!
