Chapbook Announcement; September 9 2026
Yesterday was the first day of school! That goes for both me and my kid. We both had positive first days, though mine was less interesting, since it was mostly going over a class syllabus.
I’ve been posting poetry on my Instagram recently. Nothing that I’m terribly attached to, just stuff I’ve had in my folders gathering dust, so I thought I’d put them somewhere for the hell of it.
But speaking of poetry, I’ve decided to release my poetry chapbook! My tentative release date is October 30th. That was the day, in 2017, I underwent my successful IVF treatment and became pregnant with my kid!
So, save the date. October 30th. The chapbook is basically a memoir told through poetry, intensely personal and detailing the way toxic and abusive relationships changed me as I also wrestled with mental illness.
As a free sample of what it’s about, I’ve included one poem in this blog post:
Cracked Open
Preparation for dissociation, checking myself in while I check out.
I drift into her office.
I ignore her sharp smile and turn away from the knives.
She straightens the array of tools while I strap myself to the gurney
and wince at my reflection in the gleam of her goggles,
the firefly pixels hovering around my laptop screen.
The intense glow bores through the windows to my brain
into the massive home of imaginary children;
refugees from reality.
My disconnections, my missed connections, they mill about in expectation
as she lowers her scalpel into my fuzz-soft skull
and carves a little tunnel for the voices to speak through.
I hope you’ll mark the release date!
