Can*Con and Chasms; October 14 2026

It’s Can*Con this weekend! If you’re in the Ottawa region of Ontario, be sure to come check things out – I’m so excited for the various panels, the indie books available for purchase, and getting to connect with other writers. I’ve also got copies of my books that I’ll be bringing to either sell or exchange, if you’re interested!

I’ve been pretty busy this month, so far. I’ve had midterms, readings, finding time to get to the advance voter polls, and extra responsibilities I’ve taken on – I’m working with Student Accessibility as part of the team gearing up to launch a new podcast about disability and student life – so a convention will be great for blowing off some steam.

Reminder than my poetry chapbook, You Will Be Happy One Day, comes out on the 30th this month! If you happen to be at Can*Con, though, you can get a discounted copy ahead of the release date. I thought, for fun, I’d include one of the poems in the book. Warning, though, for suicidal ideation.

Chasm

I quit.

Knowing there’s nowhere to go but down,

Ache streaking through every nerve,

I throw myself into an abyss

And sink.

To drown takes too much effort.

The flailing,

The desperation,

The hope.

It’s too much to muster

When my reserves ran dry

Back in my childhood.

This weary ocean crushes in around me,

Dragging me down,

Inescapable.

So until I remember the end will still come,

That one day I won’t have to struggle for breath,

That stillness is inevitable

But the world will go on –

Until I inadvertently float

And catch the smallest gulp of air,

I quit.

If this poem made you feel anything, I hope you’ll consider checking out the rest of the collection!
